James helps independent start-up and fledgling hospitality businesses in developing markets conceive, create and operate outperforming brands. He views a brand’s positioning as the driver of organisational culture and every aspect of the guest experience. As a result, his work covers staff recruitment, coaching and performance management design and implementation, facilities planning, architectural and interior design briefing and project management, guest-facing process design and overarching pre-opening process design and project management.

His projects are split between Asia and Africa. He helped create The Upper House in Hong Kong, The Opposite House in Beijing, East Hotels in Asia and the US, Ad Lib in Bangkok, Latitude Hotels in southern and eastern Africa and Sankara Hotel in Nairobi. He also previously worked with a number of global and regional brands, including Shangri-La, The Peninsula, Rosewood and Langham Hotels.

He has written the only book published to date related to hospitality brands: Hotel Brand Bites, published in 2014 and available on Amazon.com.
