GIOHIS 2017 was held at the Yas Viceroy in early February and brought together 215 attendees of whom almost 90 were speakers – and these included over 30 Chief Executives and equivalent. Delegates were able to enjoy controversial and set piece debates including one on whether institutions will ever buy into resorts between Mike Goodson, then head of hotels at ADIA (ably supported by Craig Cowie from Q Invest) and Suchad Chiaranussati, founder of SC Capital, SE Asia’s largest discretionary real estate fund manager (backed by Jean-Jacques Vallet, CEO of Constance Hotels). Our annual “New Kids on the Block” session , hosted by Tony Ryan and won by Pro-Invest, was another highlight as was a very open discussion on Abu Dhabi’s prospects, involving HE Saif Said Ghobash, General Director of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Cultural Authority, Khalid Anib, CEO of ADNH and Anton Bawab, Regional President of Viceroy. Our 18 round tables, intimate gatherings that dig that bit deeper into controversial topics, were also greatly enjoyed. And of course, last but not least, excellent networking receptions at the Viceroy and nearby Crowne Plaza perfectly rounded off each day.
