Vickum is a pioneering hotelier and tourism strategist that introduced Wellness Tourism in Sri Lanka through the highly acclaimed Santani Wellness Resort. Santani is part of the MAK Alliance Group. Vickum co-founded MAK group and is the Managing Director of all MAK group companies in Sri Lanka. Vickum has developed strategic plans for tourism promotion and hotel development in Sri Lanka and has advised multiple foreign investors on hotel acquisitions and developing tourism products in SriLanka. In 2014, he introduced the concept of Wellness Tourism in Sri Lanka with the Santani brand. Santani is recognised as a “Top 60 resorts to be opened in 2016 in the world” by Travel plus Style Magazine and is one of the only two resorts from Sri Lanka to be featured on the list. Prior to returning to Sri Lanka in 2011,Vickum was a Director of KPMG Business Advisory USA, focusing on strategy and business transformation. He was seconded to KPMG Malaysia from 2009 to 2010 where he led the Economic Transformation Program (ETP) and Government Transformation Program (GTP) and was the lead advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Malaysia. Tourism was identified as one of the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) of Malaysia (one of ten) under the ETP and many new products were introduced to create additional growth in the tourism sector. Vickum has over 18 years of experience in strategic advisory with expertise in many sectors including Tourism and Travel, Financial Services, and Public Sector. Vickum has led multinational teams in many parts of the world including Sri Lanka, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Vickum has received advanced management training at the Harvard Business School and is a MBA. He is also a Chartered Accountant and has a B.sc. in Biology.
